Recognizing The Benefits of Dental Implants

A few years ago, I realized that the teeth that I was missing were really holding me back. It seemed like no matter how many times I applied for jobs, I was constantly turned away. I knew that I had to do something to improve my look, so I started talking with my dentist. He explained how dental implants could restore my smile and improve my oral health, and I knew that he was right. After I had the surgery, I was able to enjoy a new sense of self confidence that propelled me into a better career. Check out this blog for more information.

Whiten Your Teeth Between Visits With These Powerful, Healthy Foods

If you're working with your dentist to whiten your teeth, you probably already know that there are certain foods and habits you should avoid, such as coffee and smoking, since they can actually discolor your teeth. But did you know that there are foods that can actually make your teeth whiter? By keeping your whitening appointments, taking care of your teeth, and conscientiously choosing the right foods, you can achieve your teeth whitening goals even faster. Following are just a few foods that will make your teeth whiter.

Broccolli

Broccoli, when consumed raw, acts as a natural toothbrush, scrubbing away germs, plaque, and stains. You see, broccoli requires a lot of chewing, which is a good thing for your teeth. The longer it takes for you to break down food orally, the more saliva you produce. Saliva is a natural cleanser and antiseptic. Broccoli also contains a large amount of iron, which can help prevent future stains. What's more, this powerful veggie kills off bacteria and fights acid erosion.

Strawberries

You might think that the dark juice in strawberries will stain your teeth, but the opposite is actually true. Strawberries contain malic acid, an enzyme that whitens teeth naturally. However, it's important that you eat strawberries by themselves to get all of the benefits. A sprinkle of sugar or dollop of cream, while tempting, can be bad for your teeth.

Cheese

Cheese can do wonders for your teeth. First, it contains lactic acid and calcium, which are great for your teeth. Calcium is a mineral that both strengthens and whitens your teeth. Casein, a protein found in cheese, prevents erosion of the tooth enamel. Cheese also scrubs the surface of the tooth, removing germs and plaque.

Oranges

Oranges are naturally acidic, and acid can be bad for your teeth. So your first inclination might be to stay away from acidic fruits. However, oranges can help whiten your teeth as well. The skin of the fruit contains lots of vitamin C. To get the benefits, simply rub the white portion of the peel against your teeth.

Onions

Raw onions contain sulfur compounds, which help prevent plaque formation. Plus, most people brush their teeth immediately after eating onions. If you eat onions, you will benefit from both the sulfur compounds and the after-meal brushing.

If you want to have white teeth, you have to work for it. In addition to seeing your dentist regularly and avoiding things that will stain your teeth, you also have to seek out foods that will make your teeth whiter naturally.
